Bullying
What is it?

Bullying can make young people feel lonely, unhappy, depressed  and frightened.

It makes them feel unsafe and think there must be something wrong with them.

They lose confidence and may not want to go to school any more.
It may make them sick.

Why does someone bully?
* They may see it as a way of being popular, 
   or making themselves look tough and in charge.
* Some bullies do it to get attention or things,
   or to make other people afraid of them.
* Others might be jealous of the person
   they are bullying.
* They may be being bullied themselves.

Where does a bully, bully?
It can be anywhere....
On the school bus, at the bus stop, in the lavatories, in the halls, in the lunch room, on the computer, cell phone, school activities etc...

   
How can you stop the bully?
You have a right to feel safe and secure.
Talk to an adult you can trust.
A parent, teacher, coach, guidance counselor.
When you tell, you are taking the power away from the bully!

In one study, 60% of those characterized
as bullies in grades 6-9 had at least one
criminal conviction by age 24.

According to The National Center for Victims of Crime

Almost 30% of teens in the United States (more than 5.7 million) are estimated to be involved in either bullying as being a bully, a target of bullying, or both.

5.4% of high school students (about 860,000 teens) report staying home at least one day a month because they fear for their safety.
