Reading police said they are continuing to investigate the death of Chailynn Brown-Hernandez of 108 Jefferson St.
Brown-Hernandez was pronounced dead at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday by Deputy Coroner Ellis J. Edmonds in the hospital, where she had been taken by ambulance.
The girl's mother, Beth Zaida Hernandez, 24, was in Reading Hospital recovering from surgery, and the girl was being cared for by her mother's live-in boyfriend.
"Accused" told investigators the girl wasn't breathing when he checked her, so he called 9-1-1.
Reading Police have made an arrest in the December 19th death of 11 month old Chailynn Brown~Hernandez. A Twenty year old man of Reading was taken into custody this morning 2/17/2007 and charged with the death of his girlfriend's daughter, Chailynn Brown-Hernandez. According to Reading police, an autopsy indicated the child had suffered extensive serious injuries, including blunt force trauma to the head, collapse of a lung, vertebrae dislocation and burns. Police say the baby's death occurred as "accused" was babysitting for the mother, identified as Bethzaida Hernandez-Cruz. "Accused" is charged with first and third degree murder and other offenses. He is being held pending arraignment later this morning.
