Jorge Luis Acevado Jr.
April 23, 1986~ August 1, 2003

Killed by a drunk driver

Jorge was 17 years old.
He would have been a
senior
at Reading High School. 
He was planning to attend culinary school.
A drunk driver changed his hopes and dreams.

Jorge went to look at stereo equiptment in a car,
when he ended up being killed by a drunk driver.
The driver of the car had a
party in which some underage guests were drinking alcohol. 
The parents were not home.
This unfortunate event happened because children
were served alcoholic beverages at a private residence.
Jorge was killed when the car plunged into the Schuylkill River.
Jorge is very much missed by his family
and friends.

The Acevado family has set up a scholarship fund
through the Berks Community Foundation
in Jorge's name.

Berks drunken-driving victims urged to tell stories

At Mothers Against Drunk Driving vigil, parent of victim says people must understand dangers, consequences

 
The drunk driver that killed Jorge had 
blood-alcohol level content of  0.13 percent.

At that time, a level of at least 0.10
percent was considered legally drunk.

The level now is 0.08 percent.
