Woman charged in drug death of granddaughter, 1
Troopers say she gave 1-year-old fatal dose of a painkiller in 2009

A Heidelberg Township woman was charged with third-degree murder, aggravated assault, drug delivery resulting in death and related offenses in the May 10, 2009, death of Leanna E. McEntee of Levittown, Bucks County.

Toxicology tests revealed the presence of morphine in Leanna's body. Dr. Supriya Kuruvilla, a forensic pathologist at Reading Hospital, said Leanna died of ingesting morphine. She said the drug could have been ground up and mixed with alcohol and rubbed on the gums.

Kuruvilla estimated the girl died within hours of ingesting the drug and was dead for four to five hours before her body was found.

The coroner's office ruled the death a homicide.
